Feeding When Hay is in Short Supply
With drought conditions in a large part of central Alberta, there is a high level of uncertainty about feed sources for horses this coming winter. Although there has been a firm belief that horses need hay, there are well researched options when hay is not readily available. These alternatives should be considered if finding hay is proving too challenging or costly in your area. No one feed program is right or wrong so do what is best for the horse.

Battle of the Breeds 2009 - Saturday
Saturday once again dawned clear and sunny, though the early morning was frosty, things began heating up with the sunshine.The final competition of the Battle of the Breeds, Trail Riding, started at 8:30 sharp. Over the past two years the trail course has seen a bit of a shake-up in regards to the obstacles and this year was no exception...
Battle of the Breeds 2009 - Friday
Friday's Battle of the Breeds opened with Precision Driving. Somewhat like a cones competition, drivers must navigate through a course of obstacles, gaining points for each one that is successfully completed. Winning the driving with a combined 169 points and a time of 249.66 seconds was Team Morgan.
Battle of the Breeds 2009 - Thursday
Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 saw the opening day of competition at the Battle of the Breeds. Held in Calgary, Alberta, during the Spruce Meadows Masters, breeds field a team of four horses who compete in various disciplines. Last year's win was especially sweet for Team Mule. This year, Team Connemara and Team Shetland Pony represent the pony breeds.

Mac Cone of King City, ON, claimed the 2009 Canadian Show Jumping Championship on November 7 at The Royal Horse Show. The 10-day international equestrian competition is held as part of 87th edition of The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair from November 6–15 in Toronto, ON.

Ocala, FL (September 10, 2009) – Four miniature horses are making a big splash at The Sanctuary Equine Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation Center as they get in shape for the AMHR National Championships this September in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The four Miniature Horses, owned by Bob Rutledge of Candyland Miniatures in Ocala, Florida, are all under 34” but that hasn’t stopped them from getting in shape by using and enjoying the horse size swimming pool.
