 Alexandra
Norton & Frequent Flyer
Alexandra Norton and her pony “Frequent
Flyer” took first place in the Pony Jumper Classic at Edmonton
Northland’s June show. Alexandra and “Angel,”
a ten-year-old POA mare (Sierra McKew x Sam's Jam) came all the
way from BC to participate in the show, along with Alexandra’s
parents and trainer Linda deBoer.
The young rider is hopefully gearing up for
a career with horses, and it looks like she’s off to a very
good start. In addition to lessons, Linda holds a barn management
class which Alexandra takes. This was the first time she had travelled
so far to show.
The Northlands show was a good experience
for Angel, as well. “She’s got an awesome personality,”
says Alexandra, who has owned the pony for two years now. “She’s
always happy and has lots of quirks. She loves her food –
she’ll jump fences to get it!”
When
asked about her future plans for riding, Alexandra just smiles and
says, yeah, she has a lot of them. “Far-fetched, maybe, but
I want to go to the Olympics someday,” she explains. We would
add that pony breeders might want to keep an eye on this young lady
as a potentially super future pony trainer – at 15, Alexandra,
luckily enough, shows no signs of outgrowing her pony yet.

Due to a "microphone malfunction",
the Pony Classic champions were announced in the big ring,
where the Kubota Cup had taken place. The girls did a victory
lap after their placings were announced, much to the crowd's
delight.
