Kingsview Formal Affair

Kingsview Formal Affair

Late summer of 2001, in an effort to reproduce another pony as wonderful and talented as our little grade Welsh mare, ‘Lil Miss Hotshot’ we made the decision to breed her.

This mare came into our lives as a six month old filly, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and had grown into a gorgeous 13hh silver bay dapple. Lil Miss Hotshot was to be our youngest daughter’s new mount. To make a long story short, the two of them became a force to be reckoned with. Wherever they went they were sure to come home with top awards, in dressage, hunter/jumper & eventing. In 1998 they were part of a BC Lower Mainland team that competed at Spruce Meadows International Pony Club Jumping competition. Lil Miss Hotshot (Daisy) was the smallest mount at this event and by the end of the first day she had a fan club that would follow her with many inquiries as to when and what time she was to compete in the next few days. Her talent and drive was a joy to watch.

Fast forward to summer 2002, a chestnut colt was born to Daisy. Sired by Lois Philp’s British Riding pony stallion, Northwinds Just An Affair (a son of Cusop Jovial), we knew from the moment he was born he was very special. He was to be a keeper, not just for sentimental reasons but because at an early age we could see that he possessed great conformation, incredible movement and was developing into a lovely stallion prospect. As a yearling he would jump the cavalettis and jumps that were set up in the ring just for the fun of it. He had a great work ethic right from the start.

Kingsview Formal Affair (aka ‘Carson’), in his first official year of showing (2005), has already amassed quite the performance record. He had a great start in April/05 at the Lower Mainland Quarter Horse schooling show held at Thunderbird Showpark in Langley, BC, winning the reserve Junior Horse championship against Quarter Horses, Arabs & Morgans. His stablemate, a four year old Welsh/TB filly, Kingsview Rhythm In Gold, won the Junior Horse championship. They were the only two ponies in the show.

We then went to Campbell Valley Park on July 31st for the Horse Trials Society Annual Cross-Country Schooling Day. Although this was his first time on a cross country field and being the only pony (and stallion) in the group, Formal Affair bravely jumped everything he was asked to and after little persuasion even conquered his fear of water.

On Aug. 5/6/7 Formal Affair was off to the Maple Ridge Hunter/Jumper show, where he competed in the ‘Beginner Hunter Division’ in large classes of 20+ horses and ponies, placing third twice and second in the beginner hunter stake class and finishing third overall in the division. After performing so well during the hot muggy days he was untacked and rode bareback to the North Allouette River for a nice refreshing swim of which he thoroughly enjoyed. His manners were impeccable.

The following weekend he was off to the Canadian Sport Horse Open Show (BC Division), where pony classes were offered for the first time. Formal Affair walked away with the Senior Pony Championship for in-hand classes and the following day in the performance classes, completing his winning ways by taking the Junior Pony championship division, winning first in every class.
And in his last show of the season, Formal Affair competed at the 20th Annual Sporthorse Classic hosted by the Canadian Sport Horse Association (BC Division) where he was awarded first place in every class, both in hand and undersaddle, winning not only the 3 yr. old Hunter Pony Championship but also the Grand Champion Pony title.

Editor’s note: Congratulations to Kingsview Formal Affair on being such an excellent pony ambassador at the various shows he attended! We look forward to following this young stallion’s career.
