AUTHOR OF "BARBARO" BOOK REFLECTS ON BARBAROíS PASSION AND POPULARITY

Sean Clancy, critically acclaimed author of the book Barbaro: The Horse Who Captured America's Heart, reflected upon the saga and people surrounding the legendary Thoroughbred, speaking from his office in Fair Hill, Maryland on Thursday morning.

"Barbaro's ultimate destiny is especially difficult to accept because he was big and strong with this sort of invincible aura around him – and he was so charismatic. People love animals – they idolize athletes and they cherish innocence. But they hate being let down by their heroes and, really, no matter what happened to Barbaro, he was never going to let anybody down, at least of his own volition.

"I don't think it takes a lot for people to resonate with a horse – especially when you have an undefeated Kentucky Derby winner who breaks while trying to deliver a Triple Crown. It's the perfect storm for emotion, connection, charity – all of the things that occurred with Barbaro's story."
