Battle of the Breeds - Jeopardy Jumping
Full Results
The Jeopardy Jumping was slightly different this year. Last year, jumps were set so they could be jumped either way, and competitors set their own course. This year there was a set course with four different options, with differing degrees of difficulty and more or less options for points. It made for a more challenging course; the Telus bonus jump also looked higher than it had been and the first four horses to attempt the 100 point bonus fence were not successful, leading later competitors to be much more cautious.
Both members of Team Connemara had good runs, with Bien Mallin's Rory O'Sullivan turning in a perfect score of 400. Avenns Cairbre McCarthy had some problems with excess speed which resulted in a number of downed rails. Team Welsh Pony and Cob had two solid scores of 220 points each, and Team Shetland Pony had one disappointing go (Flying Lollipop had three refusals at the second fence) and one fantastic go on McLeod Creek Moose, who took the low options but nontheless flew over jumps he could just barely get his nose over.
