Kim Farlinger Awarded ProChaps Athlete of the Month Title
for November
Ottawa, Ontario --- Kim Farlinger of Annan, ON,
has been named the ProChaps ‘Athlete of the Month’ for
November.
At only 20 years of age, Farlinger earned the Reserve Canadian Championship
title at the 2004 Royal Horse Show, held November 5-14 in Toronto,
ON. Competing in the first Canadian Championship event of her career,
Farlinger finished as the runner-up to nine-time winner, Ian Millar
of Perth, ON.
In addition to $70,000 in prize money and an extra bonus of $10,000
that is awarded to the champion, the top six riders in the Canadian
Championships are invited to compete in the International Division
of the Royal Horse Show. Following the opening $15,000 Canadian
Championship - Round One, Farlinger, was sitting third place behind
Millar and two-time defending Canadian Champion, Ainsley Vince.
In Saturday’s $55,000 Canadian Championships - Round Two,
which was broadcast live on CBC Television, Farlinger had an impressive
clean round riding del Destino, a nine-year-old Zangersheide gelding
owned by Peter Farlinger, to force a jump-off with Millar. Farlinger,
first to challenge, had the faster time, but a rail down gave the
victory to Millar, who was clear. Rewarded with the Reserve Canadian
Championship title was an outstanding achievement for this developing
rider who, in August, represented Ontario at the North American
Young Riders’ Championship for riders aged 16-21.
“To be awarded with the ProChaps ‘Athlete of the Month’
title is a great finale to an already unbelievable year,”
remarked Farlinger, who trains at Juniper Farms in Oxford Mills,
ON. “I cannot express how honoured I am to have been chosen.”
In recognition
of her achievement, Anderson will receive a pair of riding chaps,
compliments of ProChaps. A Canadian manufacturer of high-performance
riding chaps, ProChaps is the proud sponsor of the Jump Canada ‘Athlete
of the Month’ program and rewards each selected rider with
