2004 Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Canada
Annual General Meeting Report

by Alana Longman

The 2004 AGM was held on Oct. 23 in Leduc AB. For the first time since 2000 (in Saskatoon, SK), we had enough members attending to have legal votes (quorum). The only election was in BC with 3 nominated and 2 seats open, however, one of the remaining directors (who was not at the AGM) chose to resign, so all those elected were automatically directors. In order to continue with current programs, it was decided that we needed a few fee changes (please check website for details).

Starting in 2006, Section B x C or D offspring will no longer be registered as purebred (this will bring Canada in line with the UK’s new rules). While I am not sure there was enough discussion on this matter, and I would like to know the rationale behind the UK change, it is now on the books. I think that we have to seriously look at the half-bred registry in the near future as it is complete possible that a purebred pony would no longer be registrable under these rules (ie B/D x B/C). There was not enough support at this meeting to change the half-Welsh registry to a part-Welsh registry.

Christy Weese was present to give a short presentation on Sport Pony Canada right after lunch.

The auction following the banquet was extremely successful with the high selling item being a copy of Wynne Davis’ book “One Hundred Glorious Years,” signed by Wynne Davies and Lorraine Partridge of Rosedale Stud. Lorraine was also the judge and clinician at the young stock show held the next day at Suzanne Bryson’s new barn.

While I think the weather keep a few competitors away, it was a great time and very educational. All in all, I think it was a very successful AGM and will hopefully continue this way in the future.
