Update on Horse ID in Canada
Important Open Information Sessions for Update on Horse
ID in Canada
Two open Information Sessions were held during the Spruce Meadows
Masters Tournament & Equifair to provide updated information
on the proposed national program for identification of horses in
Canada based on a Universal Equine Life Number (UELN) system. The
sessions reported on the work and discussions of the Equine Canada
Equine Identification Working Group and provided an overview of
national horse ID programs in the US and other countries. Representatives
from Equine Canada and members of the ID Working Group were in attendance
to address industry questions on the project.
Sport Pony is currently trying to put together an article for readers
- this is a very important topic that breeders, owners, and riders
should be discussing. Because of pressure from Canada's trading
partners and recent outbreaks of various livestock diseases, the
Universal Equine Life Number is a policy that will be put
into effect. This is our chance to influence the details of that
policy.
