A beautiful sunny day greeted the entrants as they assembled in
Glen Morris and inspectors Sonja Lowenfish and Saskia de Haan of
Palm Beach , Fla. began the inspection sharp at 8:30 A.M. with Diane
Sales foal, Benzari by the German Sport Pony stallion Benno’s
Hit. A fine selection of stallions, broodmares, geldings and young
ponies followed. They were shown on the line, first outdoors, where
they were asked to stand up in front of the judges and then asked
to walk and then trot so their overall confirmation and movement
could be assessed. The inspection then moved into the arena where
each entrant again had to walk and trot, this time on a triangle.
Each contestant was then turned loose so the inspectors could see
their free movement and then the older ponies had to negotiate a
jumping grid.Everyone in attendance agreed it was a most informative
and enjoyable day,. The young foals and yearlings were presented
in the morning. In the afternoon, stallions and performance ponies
were presented. In both sessions, Sonja and Saskia were very thorough
and helpful in explaining what they were looking for and were quite
patient with each pony.
Volunteer secretaries, Anne Jones and Lorna Mantle coordinated
all the registration and inspection paperwork that day for the ASPR.
Shoot Photography was on hand to take photos of all the ponies..
The big winner of the day was Darlene Morton of Sharon , Ont. who’s
Stallion, Rosedale Top Cat, was the site Champion with a grading
of 7.6 and the reserve champion was the filly Rockridge Trinity
owned by Rockridge Arabians with a score of 7.4
