Comet and Alana competed with the Welsh team last year at Spruce Meadows in 2003. Comet was purchased in 1984 as Kelly Acre's future herdsire. His first foals were born in 1987 and are now all over North America as performance ponies/horses in various disciplines. Comet's first career was combined driving in which he excelled. The highlight was winning High Point Canadian Advanced Single Driving Champion at the Can Am Driving trials in 1991.
Since then, Comet has been shown in dressage, hunter/jumper, English and Western pleasure classes, trail, and pleasure driving, winning in open and breed shows all over Western Canada. He has been a sidesaddle Dressage Demo horse at the Western Canadian Dressage Championships, a demo Welsh Pony at Spruce Meadows and has been High Point Performance/Most Versatile Welsh 6 years running at the WPCSS All Breed Pony Show.

Lei and Gallod Syr Gwynfor, or "Fory" as he's affectionately known, were the stars of the Welsh team! This is their second year competing in the Battle of the Breeds.
Though Lei has been riding since she was seven, she didn't own her own horse until she was thirty. She and her husband bought their first Welsh when Lei's husband decided he wanted to drive and compete. They now breed Section C and D Welsh Ponies and Cobs, standing two Sec. C stallions imported from the UK and a Sec. D cob stallion.
Lei bough Fory as a three-year old and has trained him for English, Western, trail, dressage, driving and jumping, just to name a few! As a four-year-old, Fory was WPCSA National Champion Western Pleasure Cob. He has also been a regional champion in pleasure driving and hunter-over-fences. He is currently eventing at US Novice Level. Lei says Fory absolutely loves the cross-country phase and usually whinnies as he's going!

Breeze has been a jumper champion several times, including Starting Jumper Champion and 3' Reserve Champion.

Vista Avalon and Celia M. Allpress

Celia is a pony trainer from British Columbia and this is her second time competing with Vista Avalon and Team Welsh in the Battle of the Breeds. Vista Avalon is a pony jumper who has competed in derbies and done eventing. This little grey mare wins the award for being most vocal team member in the barn - she always has a "don't forget me" nicker for anyone who happens to be walking by with hay!
